Our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

CyberAgent supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations in 2015 and aims to contribute to its goals by utilizing the know-how we have accumulated through the services and businesses we operate.

Contribute to the Advancement of Japanese Society by Creating Value through Our Businesses

Since its establishment in 1998, CyberAgent has continued to change with the times, expanding its business from internet advertising to media and game businesses. Based on our conviction that continuing to expand into new markets and create new businesses will lead to the sustainable growth of the company and the vitalization of society, we have consistently taken on new challenges.

We launched the "Ashita Kaigi (Meeting for Tomorrow)" in 2006 as a forum for proposing and discussing new businesses and methods of problem solving. We have established a total of 37 subsidiaries to date, which have contributed to our business growth by generating cumulative sales of roughly 395.0 billion yen* and operating profit of roughly 51.5 billion yen*.

Under our purpose of "To Break through Stagnation with New Power and the Internet," which we defined in 2021, CyberAgent is committed to continuing to contribute to Japan's economic growth by creating value through the know-how and services built up over the years, and striving to realize a vibrant society by creating employment.

Realize an environment that enables employees to maximize their abilities while working with peace of mind

Because CyberAgent believes that maximizing employees' capabilities is a primary driver of business development, we have implemented a variety of measures to create an environment that allows them to work long-term with peace of mind, and a personnel system that draws out their full potential.

We have prioritized hiring since our founding and, as of 2022, employ over 7,000 executives and employees*. In a stress check we administer to employees, a remarkable 87%** responded that their work is "meaningful and rewarding."

To enable all highly-capable personnel, regardless of gender, to play an active role in the company, we support a flexible work style that accommodates the changes of various life stages through "macalon," our system for ensuring that women can realize their full potential. Women hold 25.8% of all management positions**. CyberAgent will continue to provide an environment in which each and every employee can be confident to take on major challenges with full peace of mind.

An R&D Organization Dedicated to Innovation and Contributing to Social Implementation

CyberAgent founded "Media Data Tech Studio" in 2011 as an R&D organization specializing in large-scale data processing, data analysis, and machine learning. Later in 2016, CyberAgent launched "AI Lab" as an R&D organization tasked with conducting research and development on a broad range of AI technologies related to digital marketing.

By establishing facilities suited to research activities and creating opportunities for interaction among engineers, CyberAgent provides an environment where they can focus on developing innovative services. It also allows researchers and engineers who specialize in machine learning, natural language processing, econometrics, computer vision, and 3DCG to achieve a balance between research and business implementation. CyberAgent also actively promotes academia-industry collaboration with universities conducting cutting-edge research. We will continue to create innovation through research and development, with the goal of contributing to business implementation and practical application in society.

Project to Promote and Raise Awareness of SDGs Among Staf

We have launched a project to Promote and Raise Awareness of SDGs among staff, providing opportunities to gain a better understanding through internal newsletters and other means. This project is a measure to raise awareness of SDGs by encouraging employees to communicate, in their own words, what SDGs initiatives deliberately carry out in their daily lives such as environmentally-conscious habits, as well as effective approaches that incorporate when developing services.

Also, through the introduction of original characters, the "SDGees," created by an in-house creator, we are expanding opportunities for exposure to SDGs in a more approachable way, and we continue to find ways to keep the project exciting.

Social initiatives in each business

Make ABEMA the television of the future, an easily accessible social infrastructure.

ABEMA not only provides free access to the latest news and information, but we have also added an emergency channel that delivers real-time information for disaster-affected persons 24-hours-a-day in the event of a disaster or other emergency such as an Earthquake Early Warning.

During the Kumamoto earthquake which occurred when the channel first launched in April 2016, it broadcast an earthquake bulletin immediately after the earthquake strike, and continued to deliver the latest earthquake-related information for around 49 and a half hours, including special programs only available on the AbemaNews Channel, which was also used as a means of gathering information in the disaster-affected area. In addition, its full-coverage live broadcasts of press conferences and focus on speed in delivering breaking news have been successful in building up a viewership base that thinks to "Check ABEMA First" whenever something happens. Going forward, ABEMA recognizes the importance of its role in society as a new information infrastructure in the age of the internet, and will continue to fulfill it.

Contribute to the Digital Shift of All Industries

In the aftermath of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, digitalization has become an urgent issue in many of the industries and government agencies, and CyberAgent is working to promote digital transformation (DX) to solve social issues by leveraging our knowledge and technical capabilities in the digital domain.

In the retail industry, CyberAgent not only provides support for marketing and advertising business realization, but also the media integration of stores using signage and AI cameras. In the public sector, we provide support for streamlining administrative procedures through AI. We also provide support for digitalization, including the operation, and execution of measures that utilize economic knowledge. Meanwhile, in the medical field, we promote the DX of drugstores and pharmacies including the provision of online medication guidance. In the entertainment industry, we help realize the generation of new revenue sources, such as the hosting of live performances online.

Also, in November 2021 we established CyberAgent DX, Inc. to enhance our DX support structure for businesses facing the challenges of the digital shift. Through these initiatives, CyberAgent is contributing to the digital shift in all industries.

Provide Services that are Convenient, Safe, Secure, and Easy for Anyone to Use

CyberAgent is working to improve accessibility to web services with the aim of "ensuring access to information and services to all users of CyberAgent services regardless of mental/physical capabilities or environment."

We have been conducting extensive awareness-raising activities both internally and externally since around 2016. CyberAgent has hosted accessibility-related conferences, and an external organization, the Web Accessibility Infrastructure Committee, has been engaged with translating and disseminating international guidelines. We also promote the development of products that are convenient for anyone to use, for example, by conducting user tests with users who have visual impairments.

Programming Project is Developing the Engineers of the Future

In addition to its directly-operated schools, CA Tech Kids is also actively involved in supporting programming education throughout Japan, especially in rural areas. For elementary schools and local governments that face issues such as a shortage of instructors, CA Tech Kids provides on-site classes, instructor development training, and curricula that facilitate the realization of independent and sustainable programming education in those municipalities. It also holds the "Tech Kids Grand Prix," a contest to discover Japan's top kids programmer, and collaborates with local government to hold regional contests for local elementary school students free of charge.

Dating App Strives to Raise the Fertility in Japan by Supporting Dating and Marriage

The declining fertility has become an important issue in Japan in recent years. It is partly due to the trend toward increasing late marriages and unmarried individuals.

Surveys show that the number of people who are not currently in a relationship and do not wish to be in a relationship is increasing every year (*1), and the number of unmarried people who think they may get married in the future is decreasing (*2). The younger generation, in particular, is being less proactive about marriage or relationships. Tapple is striving to achieve its purpose of "maximizing the total amount of love," which aims to solve the issues of dating and relationships, which is also the first step in combating declining fertility.

Tapple is working with local governments to solve the issue, including signing partnership agreements with Arita Town and Ureshino City in Saga Prefecture in 2019 and Mie Prefecture in March 2023, as well as holding study sessions with Diet members and making proposals to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. We will continue supporting dating and marriage involving the national and local governments, thereby contributing to the efforts to solve the declining fertility in Japan.
