Background and Purpose
In recent years, GameFi has been drawing the attention of the game industry worldwide. “GameFi” is a portmanteau of “game” and “finance” and refers to game services that incorporate blockchain-based NFTs and crypto assets into gameplay. These services are not limited to gameplay as the usual source of entertainment but are designed and operated so that an entire game system functions as an economy. This allows for such things as the purchase and sale of in-game characters and items, whose uniqueness and rarity are guaranteed by using blockchains and enables them to hold value as assets.
In Asia, the US, and elsewhere some GameFi services have appeared boasting several million active users and over 100 billion total transactions. As a result, GameFi is drawing attention as a new growth market that diverges from the traditional game industry.
Through its game business, CyberAgent has grown into one of Japan’s top domestic mobile game developers by continuing to create numerous hit titles through its many subsidiaries, while also adapting to the recent move to large-scale development of such games. CyberAgent’s goal is to offer new blockchain games through CA GameFi subsidiary in the area of GameFi, which is expected to grow in the future. It will achieve this by leveraging its accumulated know-how, creative and operational capabilities, and experience in developing and operating a variety of IP games. The subsidiary will plan and develop original titles and various IP games primarily for English-speaking users in Asia and North America.
By offering high-quality titles, CA GameFi will work towards the “realization of ecosystems that enable sustainable growth” as well as the creation of hit Japan-developed games that are popular worldwide.
