CA BASE SUMMIT, the Engine Driving Our Technological Future

TECH&CREATIVE

At CyberAgent, we host an annual "Ashita Kaigi" (Meeting for Tomorrow) specifically for our engineers and creators. At the "CA BASE SUMMIT 2025," held on July 18, 2025, a wave of proposals focused on advancing the use of AI agents. True to form, the speed from resolution to reality was swift; one of the approved proposals, the "AI-Driven Promotion Office," was launched on August 1, 2025. This article explores the significance of the summit, its history, and the dynamic atmosphere of the day, with our President, Susumu Fujita, leading the judging panel.

How 92 Resolutions in Six Years Keep Us at the Forefront

We have various unique initiatives to support our sustainable growth, with the "Ashita Kaigi" being a prime example. We position it as a key management meeting where new business ideas and solutions for CyberAgent's "ashita" (tomorrow) are proposed and resolved. In 2017, we launched a version specifically for our technical talent, and since 2021, it has been held under the name "CA BASE SUMMIT."

In the original Ashita Kaigi, our executive officers form teams by selecting business leaders and specialists. In CA BASE SUMMIT, it's the CTOs and chief engineers who lead development in each division that handpick their teams, bringing together about 50 of our top technical minds. The format remains the same: participants make their pitch directly to President Fujita and get an immediate decision.

CA BASE SUMMIT is a cornerstone of our strategy to remain a perpetually innovative development organization. Including the resolutions from this year's event, a total of 92 proposals have been greenlit over the last six years.

Many of our key initiatives were born from this summit, including the "GenAI Utilization Contest" with a ¥10 million prize, our comprehensive "GenAI Reskilling" program, and "AI Fes.," CyberAgent's flagship festival of AI technology held in February 2025.

A Major Growth Opportunity for Every Engineer and Creator to Gain a Management Mindset

For the participants, divided into eight teams, the month leading up to the summit is an intense period of preparation. It's a rare chance for profound personal growth, as they are challenged to look beyond their daily responsibilities and think from a CEO's perspective. Because team members are selected from across the entire company, regardless of title or seniority, the summit also becomes a unique forum for breaking down silos and fostering cross-functional collaboration.

The theme for CA BASE SUMMIT 2025 was to propose practical action plans for creating top-quality products, based on an understanding of the company's overall direction and strategy. On the day, each team presented two carefully prepared proposals to the judges. The judging panel included President Fujita, Takahiro Yamaushi, Senior Managing Executive Officer; Norishige Nagase, CTO; Yosuke Sato, Chief Creative Officer; and Shuhei Kimura, Chief Engineer.

The judges' feedback was sharp, detailed, and always focused on real-world execution. Comments like "You need to plan the improvement cycle for this initiative now, so it doesn't lose momentum after launch" and "A theme this big requires a dedicated team with the authority to drive it across the entire company" pushed every proposal to be more robust and actionable.

Based on this feedback, participants refined the details and made their final proposals. In the end, a total of 14 proposals were approved, including measures to further improve development productivity using AI, unique internal initiatives to enhance individual AI skills, and a new personnel system

In closing, President Fujita commented,  "To approve 14 out of 16 proposals marks this as a record harvest. It's clearer than ever that our entire company is united, tackling AI from a strategic, high-level perspective. If we execute on these approved initiatives, I have no doubt that CyberAgent will be a leading company in the age of AI."

The momentum didn't stop at the summit's conclusion. On August 1, 2025, we launched the "AI-Driven Promotion Office." This new organization will oversee essential reskilling programs for an era where engineers and AI agents work side-by-side, develop methods for visualizing and evaluating productivity, design a new career ladder for the AI age, and host AI-related events. As for the other resolutions, work began the very next business day, with the leaders of each project driving them forward with vigor.

Looking ahead, our development organization will continue to foster innovation through initiatives like CA BASE SUMMIT. We will continue to turn technology and creativity into a competitive advantage, always aiming to create new value.
