ABEMA to Broadcast All 64 Matches of the "FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022" for the First Time in Japan, Live and Free of Charge


CyberAgent announces that ABEMA will broadcast all 64 matches of the "FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022," including the qualifiers for the first time in Japan, live and free of charge.

The FIFA World Cup is the world championship competed by the senior men's national teams of the members of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). As the world's most prestigious soccer tournament, it attracts more than 3.5 billion viewers worldwide and draws a lot of attention each time. This year's tournament will be held from November 21 to December 18, 2022, and intense competition to be one of the 32 qualified teams is still ongoing. From Europe, strong teams such as France, the current champion, Germany, Spain, England, and Denmark have already been qualified. The Japanese national team led by head coach Hajime Moriyasu, currently on a five-game winning streak, is eagerly awaiting its seventh consecutive qualification for the World Cup.

For the first time in Japan, ABEMA will broadcast all 64 matches live at no charge, including the qualifiers and matches to be held at different locations at the same time. In addition, ABEMA will offer various programs to enjoy the event, such as the fastest delivery of video for highlights and key moments from each match, a feature that allows users to choose their favorite angle from multiple video cameras, and original content. ABEMA's high-quality video is now available on a wide range of devices, including smartphones, PCs, tablets, Nintendo Switch, and TVs. In terms of video technology, it delivers video quality equivalent to or better than terrestrial digital TV broadcasting and satellite HD (2K) broadcasting, with full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) video resolution and smooth capture of fast-moving in-game scenes. We aim to provide a stable viewing environment for all viewers by building a distribution capacity that is expected to be approximately three times greater than the past record*.
