“AbemaTV” Hits 40 Million Downloads

AbemaTV Inc. announced that the number of app downloads of "AbemaTV," a free-to-view Internet television service has exceeded 40 million on Tuesday, April 30, 2018.

"AbemaTV" officially launched in April 2016, as a completely new video streaming service which offers 24 hours programming like linear TV for free. The number of app downloads reached 5 million in the first three months, surpassed 30 million in May 2018, just after its second anniversary. It marked 40 million downloads after three years since its release, at the end of Heisei era in Japan.

 "AbemaTV" actively develop original content which is available to watch only on "AbemaTV." To celebrate the new era in Japan, "AbemaTV" had collaborated with Twitter and broadcast 25-hour live TV show started from midnight on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, the last day of Heisei era with more than a hundred TV personalities. Many programs that were streamed at the turn of Heisei and Reiwa era became popular topics on the internet. 

In addition, its on-demand service "AbemaVideo" offers more than 18,000 original episodes such as dating reality shows, original dramas, and variety shows. It is the largest number of on-demand original contents among Japanese companies operating in the country. *2

Going forward, we must strive to grow the service with expanded content such as original dramas, variety shows, news, live streaming of combat sports, and anime to be enjoyed by many people. We will also provide support for new devices and technologies and additional functionality, aiming to make "AbemaTV" a deeply established part of everyday life.
