"AbemaTV" Button to Appear on Remote for
Sony 4K BRAVIA® TVs
Enables One-Push Startup without Power Button
AbemaTV, Inc announced that an "AbemaTV" button will appear on the new remote control for 14 models from four series of 4K BRAVIA® televisions that, with one push, starts up the application for “AbemaTV,” the internet TV station. The televisions, to be launched by Sony Marketing Inc. and distributed to the Japanese market in June 2018, include the A8F Series of 4K OLED TVs and the X9000F Series of 4K LCD TVs.
The remote control with a revamped design is outfitted with one-push buttons to provide more direct control over five video streaming applications, including “AbemaTV.” Even when the TV is powered off, pushing one of these buttons will turn it on. This allows the viewer to directly load their preferred application. Now “AbemaTV” users will be able to enjoy the service more easily on a home television, in addition to a smartphone.
“AbemaTV” will continue expanding features within and outside the service to provide a more accessible and convenient viewing experience. As an internet TV station, an entirely new style of video service, we seek to make “AbemaTV” an integral part of our viewers' lives. To that end, we are proactively developing the service by expanding content, incorporating new technology for additional features, forming partnerships and more.
What is “AbemaTV”?
“AbemaTV” is a new video streaming business operating a free-to-watch internet TV station. The station has grown its viewership since launching in April 2016. The lineup of around 20 channels, all free of charge, allows viewers to enjoy a variety of programs, including original live broadcasts, news, music, sports, dramas and more. No sign-up is required. Users can watch “AbemaTV” on a range of devices, including smartphones, PCs and tablets. The service is also compatible with major TV devices such as the Amazon Fire TV family of devices and AndroidTV. “AbemaTV” is engaged in proactive efforts to offer more ways of enjoying the service and enhance convenience. One example is the data traffic conservation mode, which can cut data traffic in half. Another is TV device compatibility with “AbemaVideo,” where viewers can catch up on shows they missed. “AbemaTV” was the winning app in both the entertainment and users' choice categories at Google Play's Best of 2017 awards, was selected for inclusion in App Store Japan's Best of 2017, was crowned the West Yokozuna in Nikkei Entertainment's 2017 listing of hit apps, and won the prize of excellence for year-round content at the Digital Contents of the Year '17 / 23rd AMD Awards.
