CyberAgent and Cygames Establish an Anime Fund Jointly

To enrich anime contents in “AbemaTV” and promote game development in Cygames

CyberAgent

CyberAgent, Inc. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President: Susumu Fujita; listed in the first section of Tokyo Stock Exchange; Stock Code: 4751) and its consolidated subsidiary Cygames, Inc. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President: Koichi Watanabe) will jointly establish “CA-Cygames Anime Fund,” a fund for investing in anime IP, by the end of June 2017.

“CA-Cygames Anime Fund” will inject funds to the anime production committee to obtain the rights to stream anime videos on the Internet and produce games and specialize in investment in anime IP, with the aim of expanding the business of our corporate group in the anime field, and the total amount of funds is to be 3 billion yen. According to “Report on Anime Industry 2016” of the Association of Japanese Animations, the scale of the Japanese anime market in 2015 was about 1,825.5 billion yen, up 12% year on year, showing a growth for 3 consecutive years, and further growth is expected. In these circumstances, our corporate group will develop anime games in Cygames and the CyberAgent Group, and conduct the media business, including the video streaming via “AbemaTV,” the Internet TV station operated by the subsidiary AbemaTV, Inc. through the investment in anime with this fund.

Since its establishment in May 2011, Cygames, which plans, develops, and operates games, has distributed some hit titles, such as “Rage of Bahamut,” which ranked 1st in the U.S. in the sales section of Google Play, “GRANBLUE FANTASY,” which has over 14 million registered players and whose TV anime version “GRANBLUE FANTASY The Animation” is on the air from Apr. 2017, and “Shadowverse,” a smartphone card battle game, inside and outside Japan. In addition, Cygames invests in anime production and the anime production committee. It has so far injected funds to TV and theatrical anime works, including “YURI!!! ON ICE” and “Kono-sekai-no-katasumi-ni (In this corner of the world).”
We aim to produce globally hit products from Japan, by actively developing the games of Japanese anime IP, which attracts attention from around the world.

In “AbemaTV,” which has been downloaded 17 million times in about 1 year since the launch of this service, increasing users rapidly, anime contents have been popular since its launch in April 2016. Anime programs rank high in monthly viewership. The cumulative number of titles of TV and theatrical anime distributed exceeds 700, and we concentrate on the enrichment of original anime contents, including the first exclusive streaming of "Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie [New Edition]: The Rebellion Story" in Japan.
From now on, we plan to invest in anime IP and produce original anime through “CA-Cygames Anime Fund,” and enrich anime contents further.

Our corporate group will enhance our business in the anime field, support the production of Japanese anime contents, which attract attention from around the world, and make efforts to grow the anime industry further, through the investments with this anime fund.
